A feature-length documentary exploring the history of sport in Wimbledon, supported by the BBC and Sky Sports and produced by The True Volunteer Foundation as part of the Wimbledon Sporting Project and London 2012 Olympics.
The documentary is hosted by Jacquie Beltrao, and features many other sports personalities and commentators including John Scales, Greg Rudeski, Andrew Castle, Eamonn Homes, Lawrie Sanchez, Sean Kerly, Annabel Croft, Victor Ubogu, Will Greenwood and Mark Butcher.
It explores the many connections of the London suburb to sporting history, such as the deeply ingrained tradition of tennis, and the founding of Rugby Football Union in The Rose & Crown pub in 1865 with the first matches played on Wimbledon Common, the beginnings of the National Rifle Association on Wimbledon Common, with Queen Victoria taking the very first shot at scoring a bulls-eye, and the legend that Cricket Green is so called because the first ever game of cricket was played there.
A short edit was also screened in all schools across Merton, along with a package of free professional sports coaching, aiming to get kids in our borough excited and passionate about sports following the London 2012 Olympics.
